Safeguard Business Systems Completes Sale of Ohio Based Safeguard by Prime

Divestiture helps young entrepreneur achieve the dream of business ownership

STREETSBORO, OH – Safeguard Business Systems, Inc., an affiliate of the Deluxe Corporation and the provider of products, services and expertise designed to help businesses run and grow, is pleased to announce that it has completed the sale of Streetsboro, Ohio based Safeguard by Prime to new Safeguard distributor and former Safeguard employee Tim McMahon. Safeguard by Prime is a recognized leader in promotional products and apparel, business forms and supplies, printing solutions and marketing support. The sale was led by Safeguard’s Business Acquisitions and Mergers (BAM) team and is the latest transaction involving some of the largest and most recognized enterprises in the industry.

Born and raised near Safeguard’s original corporate office in Lansdale, Penn., McMahon was exposed to the printing and promotional products industry from a young age. His father spent more than 30 years in the field, taking McMahon under his wing while building a career at a large office supply retailer. After graduating from Drexel University in 2010, Tim McMahon was hired by Safeguard and began working with existing and new Safeguard distributors as each focused on growth initiatives. While working within the Lansdale, PA Safeguard facility, Tim was approached by R. Scott Sutton, Safeguard’s Vice President and leader of the BAM team, with an opportunity to fulfill his entrepreneurial dream by purchasing his own distributorship: Safeguard by Prime.

“This deal was attractive to me because it was made abundantly clear from the beginning that Safeguard by Prime was a self-sustaining business with the right people in the right roles. I knew my responsibilities would not involve micro-managing but instead would allow me to be a guiding force by bringing in youthful energy and a new vision,” said McMahon.

That vision for Prime is laser focused on growth, both internally and externally. McMahon aims to shape this unique opportunity by utilizing the traditional Safeguard franchise model, adapting and growing by offering a full range of products and services. McMahon also plans to increase retention and expansion opportunities within the existing customer base at Prime.

“As a young entrepreneur, I’m still in the early stages of my career,” said McMahon. “Having the opportunity to join a successful company like Safeguard made this an easy decision for me because I knew if I needed assistance in any area of my company I would be able to call on the support staff at Safeguard to assist me. In addition, there is a wealth of knowledge I can learn from other franchisees in the system. Knowing that I would have the wealth of resources at my fingertips made it much easier to transition.”

In addition to Safeguard by Prime, the BAM team recently completed the sale of Chicago, IL based Safeguard Marketing Resources. The recognized leader in full-color printing, creative services, branding and email marketing throughout the Midwest will now be owned by print and promotional products industry veteran Susan Poznan.
